Sturctural disorder and silanol groups content in amorphous SiO2

We present a study on the features of the Urbach edge in amorphous silicon dioxide a-SiO2 . The effects of temperature on the absorption edge in the range from 4 to 300 K were studied in both materials having negligible dry, 1017 cm−3 and significant wet, 1019 cm−3 silanol groups contents. Remarkable differences in the values and in the temperature dependence of the Urbach energy in the dry and wet samples were observed. These differences are interpreted as a consequence of a drastic reduction in the degree of disorder in wet materials, which turn out to be characterized by an electronic structure more similar to that of crystalline quartz. Es wurden 6 Bisacrylsaureester hergestellt, die photometrisch quantitativ bestimmbare Strukturgruppen enthalten. Angaben zur Loslichkeit, IR-, UV-Absorptions- und 1H-NMR-Spektren dienten zur Charakterisierung der Verbindungen. Daneben wurden Dipropionsaureester synthetisiert, die sich durch Austausch der Acrylsaure- gegen die Propionsaurereste von den Bisacrylsaureestern ableiten. Oxydosubstituierte p-Oligophenylene leiten sich vom Dibenzofuran ab, sind also brukkensubstituierte Oligophenylene. Ihre Darstellung erfolgte mit Hilfe der ULLMANN-Reaktion unter Verwendung von Jodderivaten des Dibenzofurans; zu deren Darstellung dienten entsprechende Aminoverbindungen. Einige Oxydo-p-oligophenylene wurden auf der Grundlage der Kupplungs-Reaktion von o-Chlorphenyl-diazoniumverbindungen mit p-Benzochinon und nachfolgendem Oxydoringschlus an daraus hervorgehenden 2-Chlor-2′-hydroxybiarylen erhalten. Vacuum-ultraviolet absorption of amorphous SiO2: intrinsic disorder and role of silanol groups

We present a study on the vacuum-ultraviolet VUV absorption properties of amorphous SiO2 a-SiO2 with high concentrations of silanol groups Si-OH . We found that the absorption spectra are made up of a couple of exponential profiles. The first, in the range from 7.5 to 8.1 eV, was attributed to Si-OH group absorption, while the second, in the range from 8.1 to 8.25 eV, was ascribed to the intrinsic absorption. The VUV absorption cross section of Si-OH groups in a-SiO2 was determined as well. The intrinsic absorption was found to be affected by the Si-OH concentration: high silanol group contents allow lower values of the Urbach energy. Abstract A trial monitoring of a typical full-scale municipal WWTP in Central Finland was aimed to explore applicability of high performance liquid chromatography – size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) with simultaneous UV and fluorescence detection as a tool for advanced routine monitoring of wastewater treatment. High, intermediate, and low molecular weight (MW) fractions of untreated wastewater (influent) and treated wastewater (secondary effluent) were characterized in terms of UV absorbance at 254 nm (UVA254) and specific fluorescence representing tyrosine-like, tryptophan-like, and humic/fulvic-like compounds. The distribution of halogens in various fractions of humic substances (HS), separated by their molecular weight, was found to be different for the different halogens. This was demonstrated for chlorine, bromine, and iodine in sewage and brown water samples by applying inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry coupled with size-exclusion chromatography. Eine vereinfachte Synthese von 8-Azido-ATP (3) wird beschrieben. Die neue Methode ist kurzer und fuhrt zu wesentlich besseren Ausbeuten als die bekannte Methode. Neben 3 entstehen dabei 8-Azido-ADP und 8-Azido-AMP. Es wurden mit einem Reaktionsansatz alle drei 8-Azidonucleotide gleichzeitig erhalten. 8-Azido-ATP (3) wurde durch Elementaranalyse, Dunnschichtchromatographie, Infrarotspektroskopie und UV-Absorptionsspektroskopie charakterisiert. Die Photolyse bei verschiedenen pH-Werten wurde untersucht. Durch F1ATPase wird 3 umgesetzt.
